Finland is one of the easier, less restrictive places to schedule a deposition. As a signatory to the Hague Evidence Convention, you can depose willing witnesses in Finland without any special formalities or involvement of foreign courts. Here is the latest official info on taking depos in Finland, taken from the U.S. Department of State website https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/Judicial-Assistance-Country-Information/Finland.html:
Voluntary depositions of willing witnesses in civil and commercial matters are permitted regardless of the nationality of the witness. Oral depositions or depositions on written questions may be taken by U.S. consular officers or by private attorneys at the U.S. Embassy or at another location such as a hotel or office, either on notice or pursuant to a commission. If the services of a U.S. consular officer are required to administer an oath to the witness, interpreter and stenographer, such arrangements must be made in advance with the U.S. embassy directly.
Even though depositions in Finland tend to be straightforward, you should always begin scheduling your reporters and videographers as far in advance as possible. There are great professionals available in Europe, but planning ahead will help assure the availability of the key professionals you’ll need to make the deposition happen.
